IMPORTANT - FALL 2023 INSURER TRANSITION: The Plan insurer for CIHIP is changing from Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada to Securian Canada as of Sept. 1, 2023.Check the claims section for more details.

If you are an international student studying at Conestoga College, the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, or the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, you are required to have emergency health insurance coverage. This Plan will cover you for basic health-care services that may be difficult to afford outside your home country, like hospital stays, visits to the doctor, ambulances, x-rays, and more.

Students covered by CIHIP have access to HI (Virtual Health Care, provided by Dialogue). This online platform empowers you to be proactive about your health by allowing you to virtually connect with nurses and physicians via a mobile or web app from anywhere in Canada. Click here for details.

Please note: Eligible international students living abroad can also consult a nurse or doctor through Dialogue for any health-related questions via chat, video, or phone. Specialist referrals and drug prescriptions are not available outside of Canada.

Why a Health Plan?

International students must be covered by a basic health insurance plan when they arrive in Canada.

How do I submit a claim?

FOR SERVICES INCURRED BEFORE SEPT. 1, 2023

All claims must be received by Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada no later than October 31, 2023. Full-year coverage for students who were covered during the 2022-2023 policy year ended on Aug. 31, 2023. Be sure to leave adequate time for delivery.

FOR SERVICES INCURRED ON OR AFTER SEPT. 1, 2023

Claims incurred on or after September 1, 2023 should be submitted to Securian Canada.

Enter your address or university address to find a clinic near you.

Upon visiting the clinic, show the staff your coverage card to have your invoice sent directly to Securian Canada.
