-Early-arrival medical emergency coverage for covered individuals is included at no additional cost and starts from the date you enter Ontario but no earlier than 1 month from the regular start date of your coverage. For example: If your study term begins on September 6th, 2021 your CIHIP medical emergency coverage start date would be: a. If you arrive in Ontario on August 10th, 2021 – CIHIP emergency only coverage begins on August 10th, 2021, regular CIHIP coverage begins September 1, 2021. b. If you arrive in Ontario on July 31th, 2021 or earlier – CIHIP emergency only coverage begins on August 1, 2021 and CIHIP coverage begins September 1, 2021. c. If you arrive late (after classes begin), CIHIP coverage begins on the date you arrive in Ontario.

Be sure to use the search tool on the right-hand side of that page for hospitals outside of the Kitchener area and use policy number 017896.

-You are not feeling well or have a minor injury: Bring your printed health card found here, then proceed to a walk in clinic found here. Be sure to use the search tool on the right-hand side of that page for walk-in clinics outside of the Kitchener area.

-Your health card has not been issued: Students must physically be present in Ontario for CIHIP coverage to begin. Verify you were billed for the international Plan on your tuition billing summary. Cards cannot be issued earlier that 4-6 weeks after coverage begins and will be sent via email. Be sure to print the card and keep it with you. If you have an urgent medical need before the above dates please proceed to one of the clinics found here with a claim form found here under #1, and have the clinic complete sections 4 and 5 if you are not given a detailed receipt. Then submit the claim form (and detailed receipt(s) either here under #2 or mail it directly to the address on the form.
